Job Description

Atomo is currently seeking an experienced Analytical Chemist to support continued innovation in our bean-less coffee. We have created our flagship flavor profiles, but the world of coffee is vast! The person in this role will help Atomo offer more coffee to more people by supporting the creation of new flavor profiles matching coffee flavors that are enjoyed worldwide.

As a core member of the Innovation team, you will leverage your deep expertise in analytical chemistry to drive Atomo's alchemy: upcycling. This is a hands-on role where your work will support creation of the most sustainable coffee on the planet. You will also be a key team member in Atomo's raw material discovery program, helping farmers and processors to find new revenue streams and reduce waste in the global food system. The Analytical Chemist will report to the Head of Staff; R&D.


What will you be doing

  • Establishing and running in-house analytical methods that will help drive the creation of our beanless coffee technology
  • Working closely with other departments (Innovation, Microbiology, Product and, Ops) to ensure that the analytical chemistry results are most effectively used to improve our processes and products
  • Purchasing and setting up laboratory instruments and equipment required for analyses
  • Establishing systems for the curation and interpretation of analytical results
  • Training junior scientists and research associates so that they can perform these methods with a high degree of accuracy and precision
  • Performing routine sample analysis on prototypes and production finished products
  • Helping to hire additional analytical chemists and being heavily involved in the growth of the analytical department


Skills and Qualifications

  • PhD or MS in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Food Science, Biochemistry or a related field with a focus on analytical methods
  • 4+ (MS) or 2+ (PhD) years of relevant industry experience working in Analytical Methods Development
  • You are highly organized with a strong attention to detail and that you uphold a high degree of rigor
  • A great amount of learning agility with exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to manage several projects simultaneously
  • Deep understanding of chemistry concepts, QA/QC, and product quality and safety requirements especially as they pertain to food
  • In-depth understanding of a variety of relevant techniques such as HPLC, GC-MS, and LC-MS.

Atomo is currently seeking an experienced fermentation scientist. You are an expert in your field, well-versed in fermentation science and microbial physiology and understand the importance and excitement of working in a start-up environment, which includes wearing many hats and being flexible with timelines and direction.

As a critical member of the Innovation team, you will bring an eager entrepreneurial spirit to the table, driving cutting edge innovation, as well as be highly collaborative across projects. In this role, you will design and equip the laboratory, and also interact with the members of the Innovation team in selection of raw material biomass and strains, as well as optimization of fermentation conditions.


What You’ll Do

  • Develop microbial processes to create or enhance Atomo bean-less coffee
  • Establish parameters for optimal growth, environmental stewardship, succession and flavor compound production for bacteria, yeasts & molds for bean-less coffee production
  • Microorganism selection, propagation and management of strain fidelity
  • Design and analyze fermentation experiments
  • Maximize understanding of interactions between bacterial, yeast & mold populations in proprietary fermentations
  • Define factors stimulating & suppressing the growth of bacteria, yeast & fungi present in proprietary fermentations

  • Dig into the analytical origins of desired and observed flavor profiles, combining chemical constituencies with sensory observations to guide further development
  • Think creatively, initiating new discovery projects, assembling a cross-functional team and executing cutting edge research and development
  • Lead and mentor a team of junior scientists and technicians to achieve company and personal/professional goals
  • Contribute to the scaleup and deployment of your work through collaboration with Operations, Quality, Marketing and other key stakeholders
  • Facilitate safety and toxicology evaluations


Skills and Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in food science, food chemistry chemistry, analytical chemistry or a related field

  • Experience in the coffee industry is especially valuable
  • Formal training in sensory evaluation strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with biochemistry and green chemistry techniques are a significant plus

  • Startup experience is a bonus, especially during early stage growth through commercialization
  • Proficient experience developing business relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Progresive experience working in food manufacturing, supply chain management and leadership roles

Job Description

Atomo Coffee is currently seeking a Maintenance Mechanic who is self-motivated and a quick study on diverse machinery! You are dependable, adaptable  and are excited about working in a start-up environment, which includes wearing many hats, being able to jump across the aisle to help a colleague and opportunities to learn production skills.

The Senior Maintenance Mechanic will be a key member of the operations team, and will lead the preventative maintenance program, troubleshooting, and repair of all production equipment and facilities. This role will report directly to the Production Manager.


What You’ll Do

  • Perform all needed preventative maintenance and emergency repairs in support of Production needs.
  • Create regular preventative maintenance schedules and train production staff on “quick fixes”
  • Resolve equipment malfunctions by evaluating performance breakdowns, identifying the root cause and taking corrective action.
  • Ensure that equipment is maintained at a level to produce maximum production at the lowest cost, the highest quality, and utilizing optimum safety standards.
  • Develop work order documents, standard reporting procedures, and other tools to increase efficiency in maintenance scheduling and execution
  • Participate in continuous improvement process
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of maintenance and product support areas
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for maintenance processes
  • Recognize both internal and external customers and manage relationships
  • Ensure compliance with GMPs and safety policies while planning and completing projects.


Skills and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of electrical systems including 110-480V systems, AC & DC control systems, installing, troubleshooting and repair
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic, plumbing and pneumatic systems
  • Knowledge of refrigeration systems, Glycol. (preferred by not required)
  • Welding-TIG, MIG, Stick, etc. Stainless / Sanitary equipment experience (helpful but not required)
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints
  • Licensing and regulatory compliance in accordance with Washington State Law
  • Forklift and pallet-jack certification
  • Knowledge of plant mechanical processes sufficient to analyze performance trends and recommend and initiate corrective actions to improve process performance

Job Description

Atomo is currently seeking an experienced Fulfillment + Inventory Lead. You are an expert in your field and understand the importance and excitement of working in a start-up environment, which includes wearing many hats and being flexible with timelines and direction.

As a critical member of the operations team, you will bring strong tactical, analytical, relationship-building and communication skills to the table, reporting directly to the Purchasing + Logistic Manager. The Fulfillment + Inventory Lead will operate across many departments by supporting Supply Chain with tracking and receiving of shipments, Accounting with inventory management, and Operations with product fulfillment and production support as well as other duties needed within the organization.


What You’ll Do

  • Track inventory and ensure stock levels are maintained
  • Ensure inbound product is received and accurate to purchase order
  • Pack, ship, and monitor outbound shipments in transit from facility to destination
  • File claims and work with carriers to negotiate rates (parcel and LTL freight)
  • Work in tandem with the sales team to get product out to customers
  • Manage inventory control processes and employ problem solving skills to run RCA
  • Support production and sanitation on site as needed
  • Assist Production Supervisor and Director of Operations with any additional projects as needed


Skills and Qualifications

  • Self starter and motivated to take lead on projects- brings a sense of urgency

Atomo Coffee is currently looking for a production technician who is self-motivated and driven to succeed! This role will be a key member of the production team at our new Ingredient Processing Facility, and will assist in the operation of our production equipment and manufacturing of molecular coffee raw materials. This is a physically demanding role, with duties including shoveling raw materials, working in hot environments, and repetitive muscle movement. This role will report directly to the Director of Facilities Development.


What You’ll Do

  • Lead initial operations of Ingredient Processing Facility
  • Work collaboratively with Facilities and Maintenance to determine best practices for new machinery, techniques and equipment
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve new equipment and processes
  • Assist in facility build out by collaborating with contractors and managers on tasks
  • Operate all assigned equipment safely and efficiently
  • Verifying accuracy of work
  • Ensure that work area is clean and safety standards are followed

This is a physically demanding role, with duties including shoveling raw materials, working in dry and wet production environments, and repetitive muscle movement. This role will report directly to the Production Manager. Opportunities for both Day and Swing Shifts are available.


What You’ll Do

  • Operate all assigned equipment safely and efficiently
  • Work cross functionally with the research and development team to fine tune product output
  • Ensure the required materials are available for production, and that the factory is safe for all coworkers
  • Inspect machinery and report any faults to management and colleagues.
  • Perform minor machine maintenance, such as cleaning machines
